Crystal Beach and the Bolivar Peninsula are a free ferry ride from Galveston Island. The Bolivar Peninsula is approximately 30 miles long and has approximately 2,000 full-time residents. It's also home to one of the last beaches in the U.S. where it's legal to drive on the beach.
The beach is a perfect place to visit, live, retire or get away! Soulful activities include walking, running, sunning, sailing, surfing, shelling, birding and just plain resting. With its small-town, quaint charm, the beach is relaxing and far away from the stress of "Life in the City". The local businesses and residents are friendly and will welcome you to the beach.
The primary sources of income are the fishing industry, the real estate industry (sales and vacation rentals), tourism, restaurants and sports guide services. Some residents commute to work in Galveston, Beaumont, and other surrounding areas.
The peak tourist season begins with Memorial Day weekend and ends Labor Day weekend. If you're looking for action, you'll want to visit our beloved, "Zoo" beach. This area of the beach has been attracting beach-goers and people-watchers for over 50 years.
During the low season, vacation rentals are offered for up to 30% less than peak season rates. This is also the time to visit the beach if you're looking for warm-weather winter getaways.
